Epson EcoTank ET-7750 Expression Premium

The EcoTank ET-7750 Expression Premium is a premium color All-in-One from Epson. A 5 color supertank, it offers exceptional color printing with extremely low operating costs.

The additional color is photo black. Which expands the color gamut for the Epson and makes richer color images. This All-in-One is a perfect solution for anyone who prints a lot of color marketing materials.

Traditional 4 color systems offer great color quality but for certain marketing materials may lack that wow factor. While 6 or 8 color systems raise the bar for quality, they also increase the costs. Which may be overkill in many cases.

The EcoTank ET-7750/ET-7700 fits nicely between the business class color and professional photo class printers. The quality definitely has the wow factor yet with an EcoTank there’s no need to hold back on printing. Stand out from the competition and print freely without any worry.

Pros

Extremely low operating costs
2 year warranty
2 years of ink included
Outstanding Quality

Cons

Small display
Slow print speed

Features

The Epson EcoTank ET-7750 Expression Premium is capable of print, copy, and scan operations. No fax option. A document feeder is also not available, not that there should be much of a demand for those. Assuming printing will be the main use, the display is only 2.7 inches.

Paper is handled by 3 paper trays. The main tray holds 100 sheets of paper. While the other trays hold 20 and 10 sheets respectively. The only tray that accepts 11 x 17 is in the rear. The last tray is for printing DVD labels or up to 20 sheets of small photo paper.

If you don’t require 11 x 17, the EcoTank ET-7700 Expression Premium would be appropriate. Apart from the price the only difference is one is capable of 11 x 17 whereas the other is not.

Generous connection features are bestowed to the Ecotank ET-7750/7700. Front ports for USB and SD memory devices. Both wired and wireless connections are standard.

WiFi and WiFi direct are included to cover any mobile devices. Ethernet and USB cover wired options.

The color supertanks hold enough ink for 5,000 pages each while the black tank holds 8,000 pages of ink. Five colors are standard: cyan, magenta, yellow, black, and photo black.

5 Color Process

The EcoTank ET-7750 is a 5 color process and kind of falls in between business color and professional color. Here’s a quick explanation of what adding colors to the process does.

Color processes with 6 (or more) tend to add shades of cyan and magenta. Or other colors like red and blue. This approach expands the total color palette available to any printer.

Adding a shade of black is less about adding to the total colors available but more about getting the most from the colors available. To be sure the total color gamut is increased, but mostly the darker shades.

Black ink tends to overpower the other colors. Photo black starts off slightly grey to begin with, so by having a less powerful alternative the other colors are drawn out more.

test pattern

What all this means to the end user is darker colors will be more distinct and contrasts less harsh. Instead of a blob of green, the different shades of grass will be seen. Details of that dark suit or clothes will be more apparent. Darker shades within wood flooring won’t overpower the lighter shades. Details otherwise drowned out by darker colors will be seen.

Setup

Of all the All-in-One’s I’ve setup, I’ve found Epson definitely ranks on the easy end of the scale. Not just the unboxing but the configuration as well. I had to remove minimal packing tape and add ink.

Some utilities are hands off while they do everything. I’m not a big fan of this method since if it fails you’re on your own.

The Epson utility is automated but also covers alternative methods. Pictures and manual instructions are a nice touch if you have to manually configure the network connection.

The setup utility also sets up the print driver. Again manual setup of the driver is available should the automated setup fail to find the Epson. Print services, like Mopria or Airprint, provide point and print setup. Great for mobile devices, tablets, or Mac’s.

Operations

My method for testing the print speed involved printing my tax forms and pictures of dogs. The B&W test pages I printed have less coverage than the ISO/IEC 19752 standard B&W test page. While the color test pages had more coverage than the color ISO/IEC 19798 and 24711 test pages.

My test pages clocked in at 14.2 pages per minute for B&W and 6.9 pages per minute for color. The color test page did have a lot of coverage so a slower speed was expected.

The color quality was terrific. Many more details showed than I expected. Just adding one color is a noticeable improvement in my experience. Text was fair, more than adequate for what I printed.

The 2.7 inch color display with keys for input is on the control panel is small but manageable. Of course, a larger display and faster speed is always desirable still they are not out of line for this segment.

There are two paper trays in the front and one in the rear. The front of the main tray folds down for easy access. There is an insert for DVD labels.

Ink is added in front. It is as easy as plugging in a plug. The bottles have a built in mechanism to shut off when the tank is full. Which also makes them reusable. If there is a way to spill ink I don’t see how.

Advanced Features

The Epson EcoTank ET-7750 Expression Premium has a proprietary print driver. In my experience this should not be an issue printing from any modern publishing program. Cases where I’ve seen proprietary driver issues are rare. They also tend to be with proprietary software, which just have issues printing in general. Or a specific web app that developers only seemed to test with one print driver.

As far as print drivers go. the Epson print driver is top notch.

It is filled with many bells and whistles for those who like to experiment. The default output is exceptional, but tweaks are available should the need arise. Such as basic color management, preview, and a job arranger.

The Epson EcoTank ET-7750 Expression Premium is capable of voice activated printing. It is compatible with Alexa, Google assistant, or Siri.

Epson has their version of the discontinued Google cloud print, called remote print. It allows for internet printing for when you’re not in the same location as the Epson. Another similar solution is Epson email print. Once setup you just send an email attachment and it will print. Though they are similar, remote print only works for the PC’s or mobile devices setup to print. Whereas email print will print from anyone who sends it an email.

Additional Tests

My methods for this test involved a standard ruler and scale. I weighed the printer by placing it on my scale. The results are it has a heft of 23.7 lbs.

I measured the printer with my ruler. The results are it has proportions of 21.2 inches wide, 29.8 inches deep, and 18.1 inches high. Slightly bigger than expected.

Summary

The Epson EcoTank ET-7750 Expression Premium falls in a very small segment of All-in-One’s. Yet it fills that spot rather well. Premium color quality combined with extremely low operating costs. Topped off with a 2 year warranty. If you need to print a low to medium volume of marketing materials and want to save money the Epson EcoTank ET-7750 Expression Premium is the way to do it.

The Copier Guy, aka Dave. I’ve worked on scanners, printers, copiers, and faxes over 23 years. When I’m not fixing them I’m writing about them. Although, I’m probably better at fixing them.  I’ve worked with every major brand. As well as several types of processes. If it uses paper I’ve probably worked on one.
